Artist Statement

​

My art combines an exploration of gender and psychology issues with my love of manga and cartoons. My characters don’t conform to typical gender norms, and they incorporate "cracked" features which bring to the surface the complexities of their inner life. They exist in a vibrant universe filled with affection, acceptance, and positivity.

One thing I’ve noticed is that in the wide world of superheroes, gender identity is always binary. It’s interesting to consider that in the minds of their creators and thus in their widely-known stories superheroes are imagined as being so conventional in this primal way. I turn that upside down. It's exciting to elevate what would typically be considered “low art” by confronting this issue head on.

My work is primarily digital, created using Clip Studio Paint, although I also work in ink on paper. I offer various products sporting my illustrations for sale through my website, colordaemon.com. My characters have extensive backstories which link them together, and I am working on a graphic novel to tell their tales.

I create my art for love and self-exploration. While I don’t intend to pursue illustration as a career, it’s a passion that I’ll always carry.
